As a native Ottawan, I can attest to how wonderful it is to make this incredible city your home!

I was born here, and my family moved away when I was six years old. Even though most of my immediate family was no longer living in Ottawa, I couldn’t stay away – I had to come back for university! I loved the physical beauty of the city and surrounding area and really wanted to move here. I remember how excited I was that the campus was downtown and close to the Parliament buildings and the Rideau Canal.

Ottawa is a city full of vibrancy and buzzing with energy year-round! When I was studying in university, I remember many of the students skating to class! The world-famous Rideau Canal, and the unique Winterlude festival are delightful attractions in the winter. Wonderful ski hills are as close as 20 minutes away by car, and my kids would take advantage of this every week when they were growing up!

The tulips in the spring were and still are breathtaking, and I particularly love the area around Dows Lake as the weather starts to warm up.

That’s also a perfect time for shopping along Rideau Street and Bank Street or spending a night on the town! In my day, Elgin Street or the Byward Market were the place to be, and Ottawa has much to offer when it comes to nightlife.

In the summer, I would frequent the farmers market in the Byward Market or take advantage of one of the many lovely parks around the city.

These days, many folks find respite from the warm weather at Calypso, Canada’s largest water park, which is conveniently located just outside the city! In the Fall we would drive to Gatineau Park just outside Ottawa to see the beautiful fall leaves. Gatineau is also a wonderful place to seek world class relaxation and pampering at the renowned Le Nordik Spa, nestled among the rolling hills. Ottawa’s incredible museums and cultural offerings are enough to keep you busy year-round, snow, rain or shine!

Ottawa has so much to offer, no matter your interests or needs

There are so many beautiful outdoor spaces and parks, farmers’ markets, green spaces, bike and ski trails, too many, in fact, to even mention! Over the years, the city has expanded, but has always maintained easy access to the downtown area and all its surrounding areas.

Many new roads and 2 major bridges have been built to improve the connectivity of the various neighbourhoods, in addition to a brand new light rail! I feel so privileged to live in the capital city, an incredible place to live and work.

Barrhaven

Barrhaven is an amazing Ottawa suburb for families! Running alongside the Rideau River and connecting the Green Belt, access to nature and endless exploration is right in your backyard. With excellent schools, abundant parks, playgrounds and green spaces, Barrhaven is a great place to call home.

This neighbourhood is quiet, safe and friendly- a great place to settle down! When you’re seeking the buzz of downtown Ottawa, a quick 15 minute trip on the new light rail will get you there! There are plenty of parks, access to the greenbelt, and amenities, such as a beautiful library, that are perfect for families.
